Supported SystemsCentOSCentOS is a free distribution derived from the open source Red Hat Enterprise Linux. If you like RHEL but aren't interested in paying costly licensing fees, CentOS is ideal. We strongly recommend CentOS installation on new systems as it is a great alternative to RHEL. CentOS releases and updates roughly correspond to RHEL releases. New CentOS releases tend to become available about a month after RHEL releases. We provide support for the following versions:
*CentOS project follows the RHEL project. However, there is no guarantee that the CentOS project will have the overall lifespan of Red Hat Linux distributions. ^As with corresponding versions of RHEL, CentOS 2 and CentOS 3 are reaching the end of their update support phase. We recommend CentOS 5 for new installations.
